Before you host
Free in beta · free account needed. During beta, accounts receive Pro access free: up to 30 players and unlimited sessions. No payment card is required. Guest hosts use the Free game list, up to 8 players and 2 sessions per week on this browser. The engine requires at least 2 players to start this game. Recommended group sizes describe the experience, not a plan entitlement; the host’s plan sets the room limit, including the host.
Participants join with a room code and display name; no account or download is required. Hosts can use Free games without an account. Other games require a host account and the relevant access.
Play in a current browser on a laptop, tablet or phone. A larger screen helps with images and matching. Use your usual video or voice call to talk; Fun Friday does not include a call. Everyone plays on their own device. Screen sharing is optional; keep private answers and roles off a shared screen.
The hosting button opens setup with Where Am I? selected. Enter a display name or sign in if needed, then choose Create room. Invite colleagues with the link or code, check the settings and press Start when the group is ready. Opening setup creates no room.
Full plan detailsWhat is Where Am I??
Everyone lands in the same street-level view and can look around it freely — spin the camera, read the signs, work out which side of the road the cars are on. Then you drop a pin on the world map, and the score is how close you got.
It is the game that gets the quiet people talking, because everyone has one region they somehow know cold. The reveal is the good bit: every pin appears on the map at once, so you can all see who was one street away and who confidently picked the wrong continent.

How a round works
Everyone lands in the same street-level view and can look around it freely before committing to a pin on the world map:
- Spin the camera and read what is actually there — signs, number plates, which side of the road the cars are on.
- Region packs narrow the world down: pick a single country and “200 km out” stops being a near miss.
- Scoring is by distance, so the right country still banks a solid score even with no idea of the town.
- The reveal drops every player’s pin on the map at once, next to the true location.
- Imagery is community-contributed via Mapillary, so coverage is broad and pleasingly unpredictable.
When to run Where Am I?
A team spread across several countries
Everybody has one region they somehow know cold, and it is rarely the one you would guess. It is the game that gets the quiet people talking.
When you want deduction rather than knowledge
Most rounds are won by somebody spotting a postbox or a road sign, not by knowing the map. Geography helps far less than paying attention does.
Rooms of twenty or fewer
The reveal is the best part, and it only reads well while every pin still fits legibly on one map.
Where Am I? questions
Do players need an account or a download?
Participants join with a room code and display name; no account or download is required. Hosts can use Free games without an account. Other games require a host account and the relevant access.
Do you need to know geography to enjoy it?
No. The scoring rewards getting closer, not getting it exactly right, so picking the correct country still scores well even if you have no idea which town it is. Most rounds are won by someone spotting a road sign or a postbox, not by knowing the map.
Where does the imagery come from?
Mapillary, a community-contributed street-level imagery service. Photographers around the world publish their imagery there under an open licence, which is why the coverage is broad but a little more unpredictable than a commercial mapping product — a fair trade for a game.
