Before you host
Free in beta · free account needed. During beta, accounts receive Pro access free: up to 30 players and unlimited sessions. No payment card is required. Guest hosts use the Free game list, up to 8 players and 2 sessions per week on this browser. The engine requires at least 2 players to start this game. Recommended group sizes describe the experience, not a plan entitlement; the host’s plan sets the room limit, including the host.
Participants join with a room code and display name; no account or download is required. Hosts can use Free games without an account. Other games require a host account and the relevant access.
Play in a current browser on a laptop, tablet or phone. A larger screen helps with images and matching. Use your usual video or voice call to talk; Fun Friday does not include a call. Everyone plays on their own device. Screen sharing is optional; keep private answers and roles off a shared screen.
The hosting button opens setup with Operation Defuse selected. Enter a display name or sign in if needed, then choose Create room. Invite colleagues with the link or code, check the settings and press Start when the group is ready. Opening setup creates no room.
Full plan detailsWhat is Operation Defuse?
Operation Defuse is an asymmetric cooperative thriller inspired by high-stakes bomb disposal operations. One player is trapped in front of an armed bomb console packed with hazardous wire matrices, decipherable glyph keypads, capacitor release buttons, and Simon color memory banks. The rest of the room holds the classified technical defusal manual — but neither side can see the other’s screen.
Success hinges entirely on crisp verbal communication under extreme duress. You will argue over wire strip counts, describe obscure quantum hieroglyphs, decode battery labels, and calculate release timers while the panic heartbeat ticks down in real-time.
How to play Operation Defuse online
- 1
The host launches Operation Defuse and room members join via the room code.
- 2
One player takes the console as the Bomb Technician; everyone else acts as Technical Analysts with the manual.
- 3
The Technician describes the visible modules, serial number, and indicators out loud.
- 4
The Analysts search their manual sections to deduce the exact disarm sequence.
- 5
Execute disarm actions carefully — 3 critical strikes or running out of time triggers detonation!

Classified bomb modules
Every bomb is procedurally generated with distinct serial numbers, battery counts, indicators, and 4 dangerous modules:
- Multi-Wire Matrix: 3 to 6 colored wires governed by serial number parity, wire counts, and position logic.
- Quantum Keypad: 4 hieroglyphic runes that must be pressed strictly in their classified manual column sequence.
- Capacitor Button: A hold-or-tap decision where colored indicator strips dictate the exact digital timer digit to release.
- Simon Sequencer: Transposing flashing frequency patterns that shift dynamically based on vowel count and active strikes.
- Auditory & Visual Panic: Live 7-segment digital timer with accelerated heartbeat ticks and hazard warning LEDs.
When to run Operation Defuse
When your team needs genuine collaboration
Unlike competitive trivia, Operation Defuse succeeds or fails as an entire unit. It forces active listening, precise descriptive language, and team trust under pressure.
Friday afternoon adrenaline spikes
The 3-minute countdown and panic ticking make even a short 10-minute session unforgettable. Expect cheering, shouting, and high-fives when the disarm siren clears.
Post-project celebration or icebreaker
Quick to restart with procedurally randomized bombs so teams can swap technician and analyst roles across multiple attempts.
Operation Defuse questions
Do players need an account or a download?
Participants join with a room code and display name; no account or download is required. Hosts can use Free games without an account. Other games require a host account and the relevant access.
Can more than one person look at the manual?
Yes! In fact, having multiple analysts cross-referencing different manual modules (one on wires, another on keypads) is one of the best ways for larger teams to survive.
Does it require any microphone or special software?
No special software — players just need a way to talk to each other, like Google Meet, Zoom, Slack Huddle, Discord, or sitting together in the same room.
Is Operation Defuse free?
Yes, during the beta. Hosting Operation Defuse needs a host account. During beta, accounts receive Pro access free: up to 30 players and unlimited sessions. No payment card is required. Guest hosts use the Free game list, up to 8 players and 2 sessions per week on this browser. Players never pay and never need an account.
How many people can play Operation Defuse?
Operation Defuse plays best with 2–12 players and needs at least 2 to start. That range describes the game; how many can join one room depends on the host’s plan. A guest host can have up to 8 players in a room; during the beta, a host with an account can have up to 30.
How long does a game of Operation Defuse take?
A typical game of Operation Defuse takes 5–10 min.
