What is Odd One Out?
You get a category and a letter, and you score for answers nobody else gave. It is Majority Rules inverted: the obvious answer is worth nothing.
That single change rewires how the room thinks — the whole game becomes second-guessing what the obvious answer is so you can avoid it, which is far harder than it sounds under a timer.
How to play Odd One Out online

Example rounds
A category and a starting letter. You score for answers nobody else gives, which makes the obvious answer worthless:
- Animals, letter P — everyone writes “panda”. Write “pangolin”.
- Things in an office, letter S — “stapler” will be taken. Twice.
- Countries, letter B — “Brazil” scores nothing at all.
- Jobs, letter T — “teacher” is the trap; “taxidermist” is the round.
- Foods, letter C — “chocolate” or “cheese”? Both are gone.
- Things in a kitchen, letter K — “kettle” and “knife” will collide; “kohlrabi” will not.
When to run Odd One Out
Immediately after a round of Majority Rules
The scoring is exactly reversed, so the room has to throw away the instinct it just built. Teams consistently rate the pair higher than either game alone.
Large rooms
Like Majority Rules it scales past a hundred players, because everyone answers simultaneously and duplicates are grouped automatically.
Lateral thinkers, and teams who like being annoyed
The whole game is second-guessing what everyone else will second-guess, under a timer. Copycat answers still earn consolation points, so it never feels brutal.
Odd One Out questions
Do players need an account or a download?
No. Only the host needs a Fun Friday account. Everyone else joins from any browser with a 6-character room code and a display name — no app, no install, no IT ticket.
How is it different from Majority Rules?
The scoring is reversed. Majority Rules rewards matching the crowd; Odd One Out rewards avoiding it. Teams often play them back to back.
