Before you host
Always free · no account needed. During beta, accounts receive Pro access free: up to 30 players and unlimited sessions. No payment card is required. Guest hosts use the Free game list, up to 8 players and 2 sessions per week on this browser. The engine requires at least 3 players to start this game. Recommended group sizes describe the experience, not a plan entitlement; the host’s plan sets the room limit, including the host.
Participants join with a room code and display name; no account or download is required. Hosts can use Free games without an account. Other games require a host account and the relevant access.
Play in a current browser on a laptop, tablet or phone. A larger screen helps with images and matching. Use your usual video or voice call to talk; Fun Friday does not include a call. Everyone plays on their own device. Screen sharing is optional; keep private answers and roles off a shared screen.
The hosting button opens setup with Hot Takes selected. Enter a display name or sign in if needed, then choose Create room. Invite colleagues with the link or code, check the settings and press Start when the group is ready. Opening setup creates no room.

A statement appears and everyone votes agree or disagree. The twist is the second question: predict the split. Points come from reading the room, not from being right.
That distinction is what stops it turning into an argument. Nobody is scored on their opinion, only on how well they understand their colleagues' opinions — and it scales to 50 people because everyone votes at once.
How to play Hot Takes online

Built-in statements are written for a work setting — strong opinions about food, habits and office life, deliberately not politics:
- Pineapple belongs on pizza

When to run Hot Takes
A room of thirty, forty or fifty people
Everyone votes at the same time, so a session with fifty players takes exactly as long as one with ten. Very few games here hold up at that size; this is the best of them.
When you want a conversation, not a quiz
Nobody is scored on their opinion — only on how well they predicted the group’s. That distinction is what stops it turning into an argument and turns it into a discussion instead.
A team comfortable enough to disagree
The statements are light, but the format only pays off if people are willing to be the one person who thinks cereal is a soup. Newly formed teams often prefer Trivia Blitz first.

Yes — it is one of the best games above 20 people. Everyone votes simultaneously, so a session with 50 players takes no longer than one with 10.

The built-in packs are written for a work setting — opinions on remote work, food, films and office habits, not politics. Pro plans can write their own statement packs.
Is Hot Takes free?
Yes. Hot Takes is one of the Free games: anyone can host it without an account, and players always join free with just a room code.

Hot Takes plays best with 4–50 players and needs at least 3 to start. That range describes the game; how many can join one room depends on the host’s plan. A guest host can have up to 8 players in a room; during the beta, a host with an account can have up to 30.

Can we play Hot Takes on Zoom, Microsoft Teams or Google Meet?
Yes. Hot Takes runs in the browser, separately from your call: start your Zoom, Teams or Google Meet meeting as usual, share the room code in the chat, and everyone plays on their own screen. Nothing needs installing or connecting to the call.
