Fun Friday for Zoom

Team games for everyone in your meeting.

How to add the Fun Friday app to Zoom, start a game in a meeting, and remove it.

Adding the app

  1. Find Fun Friday on the Zoom App Marketplace and select Add, or use Add to Zoom on this page.
  2. Sign in to Zoom if asked, and allow the one permission Fun Friday requests: to run in your meetings (zoomapp:inmeeting).
  3. Zoom opens your desktop app. Fun Friday is now under Apps in every meeting.

Your Zoom account admin may need to approve the app first if your organisation restricts which apps can be added.

Using it in a meeting

01

Open Fun Friday in a meeting

In the Zoom desktop app, start or join a meeting, select Apps in the meeting toolbar, and pick Fun Friday. The app opens in a panel beside the meeting.

02

Pick a game and start it for everyone

Choose a game, check the name you will play under (it is filled in from Zoom), and select Start for everyone. Games marked Free need no account; the others need a free Fun Friday account, which you can sign in to from the panel.

03

Everyone joins

Zoom sends an invitation to the meeting. People who accept it, or who open Apps → Fun Friday themselves, land in the same game. If you are not the meeting host, Zoom lets you choose who to invite instead.

04

Phones, the browser and older Zoom apps

The app runs in the Zoom desktop app only. When a game starts, Fun Friday posts a join link in the meeting chat, so anyone on a phone, in Zoom in the browser or on an older version can tap it and play in their browser. Select Post link in chat at the top of the panel to post it again for people who join later. If chat is turned off for the meeting, share the room code shown in the lobby instead: they can join at funfriday.work.

05

Play

The host presses Start in the lobby once everyone is in. Rounds take a few minutes, and the results screen shows the scores. Pick another game from the Fun Friday logo at the top of the panel.

Removing the app

  1. Sign in to the Zoom App Marketplace (marketplace.zoom.us) and open Manage → Added Apps.
  2. Find Fun Friday and select Remove, then confirm.

When the app is removed, Zoom tells us and we delete the Zoom data held for you straight away: a hashed key used to rate-limit requests. The link between a meeting and its game is a one-way hash that expires 12 hours after it was last used. Games you played stay with Fun Friday under its normal retention: typed answers are cleared 30 minutes after a game ends and games are deleted after 90 days. Removing the app does not delete a Fun Friday account; delete that from your account page on funfriday.work. Privacy policy, Zoom section.

Questions

What do I need?

The Zoom desktop app for Windows, macOS or Linux, kept up to date (the chat join link needs version 6.2.5 or later). Players who cannot open the app join from the chat link in any browser.

Why does my phone say "This app is not supported on mobile device"?

Fun Friday runs in the Zoom desktop app only for now. Tap the join link Fun Friday posted in the meeting chat to play in your phone’s browser instead.

What can the app see in my meeting?

Only what it needs to put everyone in the same game: which meeting it is open in, kept as a one-way hash for 12 hours, and your Zoom display name to suggest a player name. It does not read the meeting’s audio, video, chat, recordings or participant list, and it keeps no Zoom access tokens. It posts one message to the chat, the join link, when a game starts or when you ask it to.

Does everyone need a Fun Friday account?

No. Players only need a display name. During beta, accounts receive Pro access free: up to 30 players and unlimited sessions. No payment card is required. Guest hosts use the Free game list, up to 8 players and 2 sessions per week on this browser.

Is it free?

The same hosting entitlements apply to games started in Zoom as on the website. Plans are managed on funfriday.work; nothing is sold through Zoom.
